Description
Samedia core bits for core rigs are diamond core drill bits to be used with a mounted rig, a drill stand holding a core drilling motor. They are made for drilling professionals who core reinforced concrete and masonry from a stand.
The rig bits are made for wet drilling and for stand-mounted use. For wet stand-mounted work, Samedia recommends high-performance, tight segmentation and long drill pipes, and the rig bits are made that way. They are offered in the SHOXX high-end range and in the MASTER premium range, with different diameters and lengths.
These are not hand-held drill bits and not complete coring machines. Samedia makes other core bits, for hand-held drilling, dry drilling and drill motors, and the machines that drive them, which are separate categories.
Key Features and Benefits
Made for rig-mounted drilling
The bits are made for core rigs and drill stands, and the mount and length depend on the bit.
Segmentation for performance
Tight segmentation and long drill pipes give the high performance wet, stand-mounted drilling needs. Segment design differs by bit, so the choice affects speed and bit life.
Reinforced concrete and masonry
The rig bits are rated as ideally suited to reinforced concrete, sand-lime brick and brickwork, with concrete also covered.
Speed guidance
Samedia gives recommended circumferential drilling speeds by material, so the drill motor can be set to protect the diamond segments.
Applications and Use Cases
Rig core bits are used for:
- Reinforced concrete: coring holes through reinforced slabs and walls.
- Concrete.
- Sand-lime brick and brickwork.
- Setting heavy fastenings and anchors: with selected bits.
All applications are for wet drilling from a stand.
Technical Specifications
| Material | Recommended circumferential speed |
|---|---|
| Masonry (abrasive) | About 7 m/s |
| Concrete (hard) | About 4 m/s |
| Reinforced concrete (very hard) | About 3 m/s |
| Granite (very hard) | About 2 m/s |
Circumferential cutting speed (m/s) is the speed at the cutting edge of the bit. It is not the same as the machine’s rotational speed (rpm). The rpm needed to reach a given m/s depends on the core bit diameter, so the operating rpm differs from bit to bit, and the settings must follow the specifications of the bit and the machine. A circumferential speed between 2 and 7 m/s is generally recommended. The drill motor rarely has the exact speed, so use the next slowest speed. A slightly higher speed suits extremely abrasive materials and a slower speed suits extremely hard materials.
When selecting a rig core bit, consider:
- the material and the amount of reinforcement
- the drilling diameter and the length needed
- the mount on your rig and drill motor
- the drill motor speed, against the recommended circumferential speed
- the bit range that suits the volume of drilling

Frequently Asked Questions
Are these bits for hand-held drilling?
No. These are rig-mounted bits for wet drilling. Hand-held and dry core bits are made separately.
Which materials can they drill?
Reinforced concrete, concrete, sand-lime brick and brickwork are the main materials, with selected bits also covering granite and hard stone.
What drilling speed should I use?
A circumferential speed of 2 to 7 m/s, depending on the material. Reinforced concrete is about 3 m/s.
Do core bits include the rig?
No. Core bits are the cutting tool. The rig and drill motor are separate.
