Description
Carbodiam diamond cables, also known as diamond wire, are the cutting element of a wire saw. A closed loop of steel cable carrying diamond beads is driven through guide pulleys around the section to be cut, so the cut is not limited by the diameter of a blade. That makes wire sawing a standard method for cutting large or thick concrete sections, for controlled demolition and for dismantling structures where other saws cannot reach.
Carbodiam makes its cables for cutting, demolition and dismantling work in concrete and reinforced concrete, with precise and safe cutting as the aim. The range is divided into three cable families by the material they cut: CBC for concrete, CBM for metal, including steel and heavily reinforced concrete structures, and CBE, an electroplated cable for concrete and metal.
Beads are mounted on the cable with a rubber-on-spring assembly, designed to keep the cable flexible on all types of wire saw. Carbodiam offers a wide choice of bead configurations, and it manufactures customised cables for the different conditions met on construction sites. Connections and the tools to fit them are part of the same programme.
Key Features and Benefits
Cable families by material
Choosing the cable family is the central decision. CBC cables are made for concrete, including heavily reinforced concrete; CBM cables are designed for steel and heavily reinforced structures; CBE cables are electroplated for cutting concrete and metal. Defining what will be cut, and how much steel it contains, comes before choosing a cable.
Bead density for a smooth cut
Cables are available in configurations from 40 to 53 beads per metre, for precise, smooth cutting. More beads per metre means less impact on the cable.
Rubber-on-spring assembly
The rubber-on-spring construction holds the beads on the cable and gives the cable greater flexibility in use with all types of machinery.
Made to the site
Carbodiam manufactures customised cables to suit the conditions on each site, so the cable family and bead configuration can be adapted to the structure being cut.
Complete connection system
Smooth crimp connections and articulated universal-joint connections join the cable into a loop. A cable cutter, crimping pliers and a pin remover for the articulated connection complete the set.
Applications and Use Cases
Carbodiam diamond cables are used for:
- Cutting concrete and reinforced concrete: large sections, thick walls and slabs beyond the reach of blades.
- Controlled demolition: cutting structures into sections for removal.
- Dismantling: taking apart concrete and reinforced concrete structures during renovation and refurbishment.
- Cutting steel and heavily reinforced sections: with CBM metal-cutting cable.
- Mixed concrete and metal cutting: with CBE electroplated cable.
Not every cable family suits every material, so the cable is matched to the structure before cutting begins.
Technical Specifications
| Family | Designed for | Construction |
|---|---|---|
| CBC | Concrete cutting, including heavily reinforced concrete | Diamond beads, rubber-on-spring assembly |
| CBM | Metal cutting, including steel and heavily reinforced concrete structures | Diamond beads |
| CBE | Concrete and metal cutting | Electroplated |
| Item | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Smooth connections | Steel crimp connectors for joining the cable, in 8.0 mm and 9.0 mm diameters |
| Articulated connection | Flexible universal-joint steel connection with a double seal |
| Pin remover | Removes the pin from the articulated connection |
| Cable cutter | Cuts the diamond cable to length |
| Crimping pliers | Crimps connections onto the cable |
Bead configurations run from 40 to 53 beads per metre, and cables are ordered by length. When selecting a diamond cable, consider:
- the material to be cut: concrete, reinforced concrete, steel or a combination
- the amount and size of reinforcement in the section
- the wire saw that will drive the cable
- the bead configuration and length of cable required
- the connections and tools needed on site

Buy Diamond Cables from Global Source Middle East
Wire sawing makes cuts that no blade can, but only when the cable matches the structure. Carbodiam’s three cable families, its choice of bead configurations and its made-to-order cables let the wire be specified for concrete, for steel or for both.
Global Source Middle East supplies Carbodiam diamond cables and connection accessories to demolition, concrete cutting and refurbishment contractors in the UAE. Share the structure and materials to be cut, your wire saw, and the length of cable required, and we will quote a complete cable set.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between CBC, CBM and CBE cables?
CBC cables are for concrete cutting, including heavily reinforced concrete. CBM cables are for metal cutting, including steel and heavily reinforced concrete structures. CBE is an electroplated cable for cutting concrete and metal.
What does beads per metre mean?
It is the number of diamond beads mounted along each metre of cable. Carbodiam offers configurations from 40 to 53 beads per metre; more beads per metre means less impact on the cable.
Can a cable be made for a specific job?
Yes. Carbodiam manufactures customised diamond cables to suit the situations met on construction sites.
Which connections are available?
Smooth steel crimp connections in 8.0 mm and 9.0 mm diameters and articulated universal-joint connections, with a pin remover, cable cutter and crimping pliers.
Is the wire saw included?
No. This range covers the diamond cables and their connections and tools. The wire saw is a separate machine.
