Description
The Heller Rebar Breaker SDS-plus is a reinforcement drill bit, also called a rebar cutter. It is not a conventional masonry or concrete drill bit. It is built to drill through reinforcement steel, using the hammer action of an SDS-plus rotary hammer to cut where an ordinary bit would struggle.
The bit is manufactured from a single piece of steel for optimised power transfer, and uses a specially developed carbide. In the smaller diameters, 12 and 14 mm, the carbide is a single piece with four cutting edges, which helps prevent jamming on reinforcement. Heller recommends using it in an SDS-plus hammer drill of the 4 kg class.
All sizes share one length: 250 mm working length and 300 mm total length. The Rebar Breaker is designed as the complement to the Duster Expert extraction drill bit, which is intended for concrete and masonry rather than reinforcement.
Key Features and Benefits
Made for reinforcement
Drilling through rebar is a different task from drilling concrete. The Rebar Breaker is designed for productivity in reinforcement steel, with a constant cutting speed over its service life.
One-piece construction
Manufacturing the bit from a single piece of steel gives optimised power transfer from the hammer action to the cutting head.
Anti-jamming carbide
The one-piece carbide with four cutting edges in the 12 and 14 mm sizes prevents jamming on reinforcements. The larger sizes use Heller’s specially developed carbide.
Wide diameter range
Twelve sizes from 12 to 35 mm cover a wide range of hole diameters through reinforcement.
Applications and Use Cases
The Rebar Breaker SDS-plus is used when a hole has to pass through reinforcement steel in concrete, for example:
- continuing an anchor or fixing hole through reinforcement steel that is encountered while drilling
- drilling in heavily reinforced sections of concrete
Before cutting through reinforcement in a structural element, confirm that it is permitted: the structural engineer or the responsible authority must authorise it, because cutting rebar can affect the capacity of the structure. The Rebar Breaker is not intended as a general-purpose masonry bit. For plain concrete and masonry, use a hammer drill bit such as the Bionic Pro or Trijet Ultimate.

Buy Rebar Breaker SDS-plus from Global Source Middle East
Hitting rebar is a routine part of drilling in reinforced concrete, and a standard bit that meets steel can stall or be damaged. The Rebar Breaker SDS-plus is a dedicated tool for those moments, so the hole can be finished rather than relocated.
Global Source Middle East supplies the Rebar Breaker SDS-plus to contractors and installers in the UAE. Send the diameters that match the reinforcement and holes on your projects for a quotation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Rebar Breaker a masonry drill bit?
No. It is a reinforcement drill bit for cutting through reinforcement steel. For plain concrete and masonry, use a hammer drill bit.
What machine does it need?
An SDS-plus rotary hammer, used in hammer drilling mode. Heller recommends an SDS-plus hammer drill of the 4 kg class.
Does it work with the Duster Expert?
They are designed to complement each other. The Duster Expert extracts dust in concrete and masonry. The Rebar Breaker is the tool for cutting reinforcement steel when it is encountered.
Does it come in other lengths?
No. All Rebar Breaker SDS-plus sizes have a 250 mm working length and 300 mm total length.
